We’re back with another Road-Map update for you. A lot of exciting stuff is going on with Treasure Adventure World right now and I’m happy to share some of what we’ve been up to.
Before moving on to the road-map I want to thank our publisher, Chucklefish Games, for hosting us in London for EGX Rezzed. It was a fantastic opportunity for us and we were in great company all weekend.
As we’re inching ever closer to “content complete” we’ve also taken some time to polish assets we weren’t happy with. As part of this polish work we “renovated” the art for UI, menus and title screen – including an updated logo!

Our title screen is still a work-in-progress, but the logo is finished!
User Interface

Most of the work on the UI involved new art assets (We didn’t need to change the code much at all). Our menus, HUD and text boxes all have a unified look that is simple and clean (like the original game). We also took another look at our font situation and finally settled on a few fonts that fit our aesthetic.
Player Assets

We did a final pass on the player character’s animations (check this post for more info on how we animate the player character). The only work left in this category is a few assets for flashback scenes.
Item Design & Assets

We finalized nearly all of the items in the game. These include simple things like health pick-ups and more involved things like the television screens. Speaking of which, we brought on artist Tony Wojnar to design and animate all the television channels in pixel art. We’re very happy with the results. There are 12 channels total, each is accompanied by a relevant sound clip (many from old sci-fi B-movies) and they change depending on the time of day- will you find them all?
Boss Design & Assets

The final boss is the last big piece of content left for us to do and I’m happy to report that it’s already about 50% done. We obviously want the final encounter to be epic, so we are taking our time with it. Most of the assets and animations are done. I’ve begun coding the actual fight this week and it will probably take me a couple more weeks to finish.
Environmental Design & Assets

As mentioned above we spent a lot of time this spring on “polish” – much of this included environmental assets. Some of the work was needed to correct perspective, color and contrast. We also revamped most of the particles. We wanted everything to have a consistent style and that involved redesigning some particle effects completely – like fire and sludge.
Additionally we added some subtle bloom and vignette effects to round out the game’s lighting system.
So why only 95%? We still want to add a few “critters” to the game to flesh out the world a little bit. Here’s a sketch of some that we’re working on:

Quest Progression

Before I began coding the final boss fight I wanted to wrap up some cutscenes that happen before that encounter. These scenes are very important and reveal some of the story’s biggest secrets. Cutscenes take me a long time to script but I’m really happy with how they turned out. With those done there is not much left for us to do to finish the main quest.
Level Progress
We also took some time this spring to do some level building. There are still some levels that need a little TLC, but most of them are now at 100%. The only levels that still needs any significant work are the underwater areas.
