Road Map Update – Summer 2017

Progress Report | Screenshots | Video 6 6 Comments

Before we start this quarter’s update we are excited to announce that:

Treasure Adventure World will be coming to GOG!

Treasure Adventure Game has been available for free on GOG since 2011. There’s no doubt that without GOG we never would made it this far. Most of the fans I meet tell me they found our game on GOG and even Chucklefish (our publisher) contacted us after seeing our game on the service. We are very happy to be continuing our relationship with the fine folks at GOG and will have some more exciting announcements about this soon.

Take a look at the road-map and you’ll see a lot of 100%-green going on. We hit a major milestone this month: we are at CONTENT COMPLETE! Technically, I’d say we’re in beta, but it’s a “soft” beta for now, as I’m still the only one testing the game.

But, instead of talking about how we’re 100% done with the Player, Item, Environment and Boss Designs & Assets or how the Levels and Quest Progression are complete, let’s take a look at what we still have left to do.

Dialog

Since most of the story/dialog hasn’t changed significantly from Treasure Adventure Game, there hasn’t been too much new dialog to write. However, there ARE some story changes, new NPCs and other things that will require me to dust off the old word-processor and do some writing. Right now the game contains some placeholder dialog so this is literally as simple as me opening up Notepad+ and cranking it out. I predict this is about a weeks worth of work alone.

Optimization

We have to set aside some time for profiling to optimize the game’s code. I want TAW to be playable on as many machines as possible (including old laptops, etc), so hopefully this process will yield results. Optimization is something I’ve attempted to do along the way, but I’d like to give myself a couple of days dedicated to this task.

Testing

This will be the biggest hurdle to get over. I have begun my initial internal testing and am in the midst of fixing the first round of bugs. Once I do one more round, the plan is to pass a build to the fine folks at Chucklefish for additional testing and feedback. Depending on how that goes, I believe we will finally be able to announce a release date! After that we will do a round of beta-testing with our backers (I will contact all backers about this at the proper time – and if you’ve already contacted me about beta testing you will be first in line).

Steamworks

Our Steamworks plugin is finished and implemented. We still have to create most of the game’s achievements (includes a name, description and icon for each) and then tie them in to game events. This part will be fun for us, and it shouldn’t take too long, but it’s got to get done. We also plan on making trading cards and cloud saving.

This is just an early example. Does not represent the final achievements.

Marketing

This category is not included on the road-map, but it’s an important part of the process. Luckily we have Chucklefish to help us with a lot of the marketing stuff. We will still be doing plenty of this ourselves, though. The current priority is getting our final trailer together and setting up our Steam and GOG store pages.

And that’s it for now! As you can see, exciting things are happening and we’re looking forward to prepare the game for release. Cheers!

Can’t lie: GloboCorp Mainframe looks super smug that Whydah doesn’t have dialogue yet.

Man I’m excited. Don’t skimp out on the last dialogue pieces! Your writing in the first game created some depth in the world. Any Chucklefish crossover Easter eggs? It’d be fun to see Stardew Valley’s Joja Mart references in the game

Exciting to see the game drawing so near. Keep up the good work and best of luck.

    Woooooooo!
    So hyped for TAW!!!

  5. Great to see, especially the “old laptops” bit, thanks for that! Can’t wait to play the finished game, it’s been a long but (judging by the demo!) well worthwhile wait. Good luck with the final push!

I’m so happy that game comes out soon. I have just downloaded Treasure Adventure Game 5 days ago, and now I see extreme cause to donate money for all this effort. Brilliant!!!
